EMERGENCY EARTHQUAKE ACTIONS UNDERTAKEN IN LORCA AND HAITI

Urban Experience IDR has quite a significant specialization and innovation but a milestone marked in the history of the company was caused by the earthquake in Lorca (Murcia) in 2011.

It was the first earthquake in reinforced concrete buildings of only 30 or 40 years old in Europe. Urbana IDR attends to the call of some Lorca architects with which we work on structural issues in Murcia.

The emotional impact was very intense, both at business and personal levels. Each of the people who work there and had that experience found that our knowledge and our work were of great value, we were helping a community to get their life back.

Two years later, many of the buildings that were demolished remain, inhabited with subsequent gratitude and peace of mind from the neighbours and the liable municipality. There are people who in the midst of the chaos, trusted and felt safe with our explanations and today remain our friends because that joined us all in a very strong way.

RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT IN HUMANITARIAN HELP JOBS

Working in the earthquakes in Lorca and Haiti comes up the encounter with some of the United Nations agencies. And it is now, once again, that URBANA IDR arose is engagement in a research project and development of a new shelter to improve the quality of life of people who currently live in tents.

It is an innovative product developed by a specialized multidisciplinary team that meets the compulsorily requirements in emergencies: foldable, easy to carry, lightweight, quick to install and economical, but at the same time considerably implements the habitability from a tent, making it a transitional shelter, applicable to places where people who live in conflict or disaster take some time to recover their original and permanent houses.

To dignify the lives of these people, this transitional shelter is more stable, rigid, multilayer waterproof cladding and breathable, large thermal inertia, features a rigid ventilated roof, a structure fixed to land but with a raised floor which prevents the passage of moisture.
