A DECENT HABITAT FOR CRITICAL SITUATIONS.
The company from Alicante Urbana de Exteriores and the University of Alicante will join forces to develop a modern module that can be used as a shelter in situations where the civil population lose their homes or have to travel, in situations such as natural disasters, wars or migration . The following Monday an agreement for the manufacture of a prototype shelter .will be signed, and it will run by the Department of Civil Engineering.
Its design has been carried out in collaboration with the architects Barbarela Studio and the research laboratory of the University of Alicante, Alicante Fab Lab. This laboratory is part of the international network of laboratories Fab Lab created and led by world-renowned research center at MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology).
Urbana de Exteriores in its R & D division has created a model to revolutionize the concept of temporary housing for the millions of people who inhabit them due to natural disasters, political conflicts or other migrations. The product will improve habitat refuge based on the innovations introduced: rigidly, insulation, breathable, waterproof and devices that allow the use of natural resources to supply electricity and drinking water structure.
The module is intended for emergency situations, as it is light, foldable and easy to assemble. Its versatility allows different applications and arrangements that improve sociability and dignity for the displaced people.
Commercially it is intended to meet the demands of humanitarian bodies and NGOs. Furthermore, this model housing opened new business opportunities in the military and recreational area.
From Suricata Systems, responsible for marketing the product to international markets, says that "the market uptake has been in meetings with purchasing managers of cooperation agencies." In particular, the version for accommodating troops and for field hospital and is under high demand.
